Default Update

Seems this one doesn't want to wait... so far the petals and sepals are all pure white-- in fact, not cream or off white-- but brilliantly white. Looks like the lip has stripes.

Many more blooms to come and a few have barring-- so it looks like I'll have a mix of pure white and barred. Can't wait to witness the scent as I'm told it's pretty sweet.

And here is "Cranberry Queen"-- She never has many blooms but I love this one. It's as if someone painted it. The picoteed edge is really nice (I'm a sucker for picotee edges).

And this is Grosbeak 'Montclair'.... the bloom is quite large. Again, amazing scent.

I'm glad I have my plants... work has been super stressful, my daughter is a raging 2 year old, I'm having health issues and I get no sleep... but my plants bring m peace and tranquility... thank God for something so simple and beautiful. Plus, they will help me get through this up-coming storm-- supposed to be really windy and snowy and in the single digit temps!!!!!

Thanks for that... It's a condition I'll always have and sometimes it wears me down. My orchids save me, often, from my own pain and self pity... Theyre a refuge from the yuck I'll health brings.

The flower has nearly fully opened now... I will take photos tomorrow and post!

Here's the bloom! So slender and brilliantly white in person...and I like the fuzzy striped lip. Enjoy.

You have some beautiful phals there. It seems that there are a lot of fragrant red phals around right now. I have three different fragrant reds. I really like your Grosbeak 'Montclair'. I'll have to put that one on my wish list.

Tucker thank you so much, that means a lot, especially coming from you! You're plants are always so beautiful too.

As for the reds....yeah I typically even try to stay away from reds in phals because their colors seem rather...hmm...shallow....not the deep rich reds you can find in other plants. I grow hippeastrum they produce some reds now that are intense and vibrant. But yes, the red phals likely have a lot of the same parents.

Grosbeak is very nice...a large bloom and it's shape is ok...flares too much for my taste but I haven't had it too long to know if itll improve. But the fragrance is knock you down, smack you in the senses amazing. Lol

Updated photo... Loads of blooms opening. Some pure white and some with stripes...haven't detected a scent yet, though.

Whoo Hoooo!! Novelties... there just aren't many of us around here. I'm so glad to see them.

I like them all. You've done really well with them.

I didn't read every post, but someone was looking for Phal Ember. Someone at Redlands (aka The Redland International Orchid Festival) had a bunch of them last year. The texture and color is indescribable. I have also seen what looks like one (with no label) at Fresh Market here in NC. So I would say someone has cloned them. Just keep your eyes open. If you know someone going to the Redland Festival this year, ask them to look for one for you.
