Phal hieroglyphica in spike!!
Well, the countdown is finally on!! I've had this Phal for four or five years, and have yet to see it flower. It is the ultimate sulker. If it gets moved, even the roots stop growing for a month or two! I'm dying to see what the flowers turn out like, since all the other plants I received from this vendor have been mislabled, like what was supposed to be P. fasciata turned out looking exactly like P. x intermedia. I guess only time will tell! Hopefully not too much more time!

I should add that it was blooming size when I bought it, not a seedling. I have grown and flowered seedlings in half this guys time. But at least its put out 2 spikes for me! And its leaves are rock hard, like a cattleya! (the pics dont do the roots justice, but it has a nice thick root system in the pot, and has never put out many aerial roots, just smooth cylindrical ones that are about twice as thick as my other phals. Almost like its semi-terrestrial)

Well if it acts anything like my Heiro, it should take about 2-3 months from spike initiation to blooms. Maybe that will help you on the waiting game, and the longer spike appears to be at least a few weeks old. My spike was that long, give or take some, after about a month. Good luck, and can't wait to see what it turns out to be.

Thanks! The longer spike has been growing for about a month now. The shorter one started about a week or so after. Have you found yours to be a touchy grower? How often does yours flower?

Actually mine was it's first flowering, and I've only had it about 6 months now, so I dont' know that I can speak well about it's touchiness. In my hands its put out several new roots, and a new leaf. It's in sphag in a clay pot with no inner pot. Seems to like it pretty well I guess. But, either way, keep us posted on yours

Just remember, this is one of the Phal species that reblooms from old spikes, don't cut them off until they turn brown.

That's exciting to get those two spikes. Please post pictures when it blooms. It should be very nice. Good growing.
