YAAAY!!! My SECOND Phal species has FINALLY bloomed! I AM SOOO EXCITED!!! Let me introduce Phal.
violacea var. Sumatra 'Prism Bow.' I decided to add a cultivar name knowing that I will be getting a LOT more of these, and I chose 'Prism Bow' because the petals are reflexed, which though in judging standards are undesirable, makes this flower quite charming. The fragrance is WONDERFUL, and I could smell it long before the flower was fully opened. To me it smells like a sweet, sugary, bubblegum, with a weird base smell that I can only describe as fatty. I know it might sound crazy, but that is the best description I can think of! Sheesh, so much talking, now it is time for pictures!
Here is my thumb for size reference (I can give exact measurements for those who are sticklers for the size)
A side view for the amount of reflexing.
And finally, just the flower!
