Wow Rosie! I've been watching this thread and waiting, certainly worth the wait! Congrats. As previously stated, I really love the saturation of purple. :)

Thanks everyone

The fragrance is a lovely sweet delicate one, and it's already working on a second bud :)

Eyebabe 08-19-2011 01:50 PM

Sah-weet!

Kimbubbley 08-19-2011 02:56 PM

Stunning pictures Rosie and beautiful bloom! Well done you :D

nenella 08-19-2011 03:40 PM

WOW! You've got yourself a really nice one Rosie!, The colours are lovely and the shape of the flower is nice & rounded. My Bellina has the 'long, skinnier' type of petals. Where did you get yours?

camille1585 08-19-2011 03:51 PM

When I ordered orchids today I looked to get a bellina, but sadly they didn't have it. Should have gotten a violacea instead, but they were a bit pricey

ronaldhanko 08-19-2011 04:03 PM

Superb, Rosie. Wish I had one in bloom just for the fragrance.

sweetjblue 08-19-2011 07:20 PM

Congrats Rosie!! Great shape and color. Good Growing!

Thanks everyone :)

I can smell it from the other side of the room this morning :cloud9:

Nenella, I got it from Großräschener Orchideen in May 2010. When talking to Camille yesterday I thought it was bought with my first project plant, but looking at my records today it was bought as a TC of my second project plant in spring last year.

quiltergal 08-20-2011 03:54 PM

Excellent!! The color and shape is great. Nice job! :)

Lagoon 08-20-2011 06:10 PM

WhiteRabbit 08-22-2011 04:52 PM

woo hoo! beautiful!

RosieC 08-23-2011 04:59 AM

Thanks again everyone :)

I'm seeing a lot of growth in the second bud now :cheer: although I accidentally left this guy sitting up to the top in water for 24 hours (was meant to be 10min). It's still looking good though and Phals can normally take that occasionally :crossfing

vandagirl 08-23-2011 05:04 AM

Oh boy. I hope you did not damage it to much.

camille1585 08-23-2011 05:06 AM

Does bellina bloom sequentially, or will it hang on to several blooms at once?

I admit that I've left orchids sitting in water for 24h on more than one occasion, and they've always been fine.

RosieC 08-23-2011 05:29 AM

I think it's sequential, but not sure.

It's certainly producing the second bud after the first was almost ready to open, unlike most of my hybrids which produce the whole spike of buds then start opening them. Whether it will hold a couple of flowers at once I'm not sure.

Yeah, I've left Phals that long before. My bulbo would start rotting new growths in that time, but the Phals generally cope. I also found a Phrag this morning which had been standing in water since Friday. I'm growing that in a variation of S/H and had forgotten to release the water :( The good news is the Paph Pinocchio I left in water 2 weeks is still doing fine months later :)

FairyInTheFlowers 08-23-2011 09:25 AM

Yes, your bellina is a sequential bloomer, with one or two open at the same time. That is why you should never cut off a spike from a strong plant, as they compensate for low flower per spike by having multiple spikes.

Cattleya17 08-23-2011 10:22 AM

Thats happened to me too! But only with catts and thats not a problem for them

but ive only recently been getting into Species Phals and not doing so hot lol!!!!!

my bellina is still a seedling a big one but a seedling. I can't wait for mine to look anything like yours Rosie!!!!
