Phal. Schilleriana culture?
Dose anyone have experience of growing Schilleriana? Does it need warm temps rather than intermediate? What would the min. winter temps need to be? I have the chance of getting a big one but I'm not sure if I should or not.

If you can provide warm temps., by all means get one. The leaves alone make this species worth growing. I have a (now large) seedling. I grow mine warm (>25deg. C) and humid.

Thank you very much for the information. As most of my plants are intermediate I think I'll skip this one even though it does look fabulous.

All Phals will do better at 25°C rather than 20 in general. I have schilleriana primary hybrids that do just fine in intermediate conditions. Of course hybrids are most tolerant of a wider range of temps due to hybrid vigor, but I have been told that schilleriana will grow just fine on the higher side of intermediate.

For orchids that are at the borderline of my conditions, it's hard to say no! And you also don't know how they'll do until you try. schilleriana is very very high on my wishlist, just seems a bit hard to find!

Run! Don't walk. You will not regret it. I'm sure you'll find a way to make it work.

Yes Go for it !
I have had one of these for a few years now. I nearly lost it a couple of times. At the beginning of last year It was down to one root & 2 leaves. I decided to mount it on a piece of drift wood.It loved it almost immediately. It now has 4 leaves and loads of roots. It also flowered in december (small spike 4 flowers)- The only 'hassle' is having to water every other day if not everyday.
Look forward to seeing your new plant and how you get on.
