Phalaenopsis braceana Male
Default Phalaenopsis braceana

This little beauty has some interesting traits. The flowers change color over time. These particular flowers, as you can see, start maroon/purple and then over a few weeks turn more golden. The flowers feel very rubbery. The plant is deciduous (decidiuos orchids make me nervous). This one lost all but two of its beautiful shiny leaves. But the coolest trait of all. The flowers, although faint, smell like BACON!!

They smell like bacon you say? How interesting and pleasant. Do they smell that way all day or just at breakfast? I like the idea of the color change as the flowers age and the blooms remind me of something off a Encyclia orchid. Al

Really lovely, fishballs. Bacon is good! I think my venosa smells like ham. Bacon > ham.

Smells like bacon? Oh yummy! It's such a wonderful Phal, I didn't know about the color change that's really neat. But I have to say that its deciduous nature would scare me, I'd be too afraid that it was actually dying. I think that this will be one of the first orchids that I'll buy when I set up my terrarium this summer.

Bacon you said? I hope that it's just a faint smell - I have 2 in spike right now, and I HATE bacon! Mine grow in a terrarium, and that would be just too much.
I love the pictures of the flowers though, they are beautiful.
