Default Phal. tetraspis var speciosa 'C-1'

Before anyone gets all wound up about whether or not this is the correct name for this plant lets just take a breath and remember that the name controversy rages on over this one. This is a first bloom seedling purchased from The Dowery Orchids a year and a half ago. It has grown well and seems to like my conditions. I have read that it tends not to display the red blotches it is so well known for when the growing conditions are cooler and not as bright. We'll have to wait and see. Not the best picture, but white is so hard to photgraph.

Thought I'd update this thread. This plant has bloomed again 6/5/11, and this time both flowers show the blotching though it's kind of a red brown, and not really maroon. I'm not sure if the color will change as the flower ages.

Hey I have one of these, too! Mine is still pretty small but is growing a lot. How big is your plant? I got mine from Big Leaf.

Very pretty! The lack of red may not be related to growing conditions, I recently a discussion on a french orchid forum that C-1 often does not display the red markings in it's very first blooming. You usually need to wait for the 2nd blooming before the color comes up.

That's good to know Camille. Thanks for the tip.

Ryan mine is a small plant, maybe four leaves. It doesn't seem to be very fussy. It does have another spike on it that started before the one currently in bloom. It has pretty much stalled out. Not sure if it's going to do anything or not.

Thought I would update this thread rather than start another. This plant has bloomed again. Photos at the beginning.

The lip also seems to show color that wasn't in the first blooming. Looks great.

As an recent purchaser of a young Tetraspis seedling, I'm intrigued by the color changes from bloom to bloom. Is this little one a sequential bloomer from the same spike, or a new spike for the next round of blooms? Very cool that you get changes from each set, and I agree with Bill, there does seem to be some added purple tones in the lip that I dont see in the first flower. Keep us posted!

I love the blooms on both pictures but I have to say that the second one is my favorite. Hopefully the next blooms will be that vibrant red that you are looking for.
