Oooh, beautiful!
You couldn't make a better choice: P. equestris is imho the easiest and the most generous species of Phalaenopsis.
Yours is the alba or semialba variety, therefore is a bit less strong than the standard type but you've no reason to be worried, it will give you thousands of satisfactions: tons of flowers and... KEIKIS
As Camille said, get ready to be an equestris addicted
I thought that semialba was the type that has some yellow on the lip? This one would either be alba or albescens.

ooh, there are a lot of unofficial varieties of equestris.
In my opinion semialba is the same for albescens and the one with the yellow lip is called aurea variety (that is an "official" variety).
Obviously I may be wrong... or probably I am

I think you may be right about aurea being the one with the yellow. But there are so many different varieties and the differences are sometimes minute, so it's easy to get lost. Then there's all the apari types and so on....

apari
I never, never succeeded in distinguish an apari equestris.
I read apari should have longer and more elongated petals but... a friend of mine bought an apari, it bloomed and it seems that its petals are even shorter than the ones of mine. (his1his2, mine1mine2)
or... perhaps mine is an apari type???
Please help me if you know something more
You're gonna love your new chid. I've only got a couple of equestris, but I'm on the hunt for more. My first one gave me forty or fifty blooms. I was so happy with that, but then at the very tip of the bare spike a group of four or five flowers started to form. And in the middle was the start of a keiki--soooooo cute, the flowers came out of the keiki like a tiny bouquet You have made a wonderful choice!! (And that's a really nice looking plant.)
