Default New Arrivals

It's been a good orchid week for me. I got a Phal. equestris 'Orange' Keiki that I got in trade for a bulbo from Susanne yesterday. It's very cute and is bigger and has way more roots than I was expecting. Thanks Susanne!

Today I got my order from Orchidview. I ordered Phal. violacea 'Blue Chip' x self, and Phal. bellina 'Green' x 'Ponkan' AM/AOS. I had been looking for a bellina 'Ponkan', or at least one with that cultivar in the breeding. They're very nice sized seedlings that look perfect. Seriously there isn't flaw one on any of the leaves. I can finally stop whining about not having a bellina yet.

So that puts my species collection at:

Phal. bastainii (Oak Hill)
Phal. equestris standard type (Hauserman)
Phal. equestris 'Orange' (Susanne)
Phal. kunstleri (The Dowery)
Phal. speciosa 'C-1' (The Dowery)
Phal. mannii (JC Tropicals)
Phal. bellina 'Green' x 'Ponkan' AM/AOS (Orchidview)
Pha. violacea 'Blue Chip' x self (Orchidview)

At the top of my species Phal. wishlist are:

Phal. appendiculata
Phal. equestris var alba
Phal. equestris var aurea
Phal. equestris var coruelea
Phal. cornu cervi 'Red'

There are lots more, but shipping season is about over and so is my budget!

You're off to a great start on the phal. species collection. Is your speciosa in bud/bloom?

Orchidview's list is a year old. Is it still up to date with what they have?

You're welcome, Terri...and thank YOU for the awesome Bulb Daisy Chain you sent my way

Their planes must have crossed each other's paths

I love your list

A quick note on the cornu-cervi 'Red' you want:

I bought a gorgeous "red" about 2 yrs ago, in bloom. When I rebloomed it, the color was much lighter and then it died I went and got another but not specifically 'red', in bloom. It has been reblooming constantly now for months and the blooms are more like the original red that I killed!

ya never know

Al, no my speciosa did not come in bud or bloom. It's pretty little....only 3 or 4 leaves. I'll probably have to wait until spring at least for blooms.

Hera, their website is not up to date, on violaceas anyway. Their species list hasn't changed much. Katherine emailed me a current list of the blue violacea's they are offering and the prices, so if you'd like me to send it your way I'd be happy to.

Sue that's so weird about the cornu cervi. I wonder if light levels and temps play a part in the intensity of the color? Usually I like to buy plants in bloom even though they cost more just because I have been disappointed in the past with flower coloration on plants I have purchased out of bloom.

Great new plants! And you have a nice start on a species collection too!

I'm at the end of my budget (and space, for now) too! But at least we've both got some great new plants to watch grow and bloom, eh?

I'll be looking forward to seeing the first blooms of your gems!
