They're the only ones i have at the moment - i'm looking for Phal bellina next or Phal tetraspis... i'm building up my collection. It's hard to find good quality species that are actually for sale here in Australia though

Nice looking greenhouse (glasshouse) you've got your eye set on too! My parents have been looking at greenhouses for years, but are too thrifty to take the plunge. I inherited their penny-pinching nature, but I simply won't be able to survive my whole life without a greenhouse. When I finally settle down in a permanent home (probably after a few moves) I'm definately getting a greenhouse!

I have a houseplant book from the 1970's with a picture of the most incredible interior courtyard of a house in New York. The roof is glass brick and there are tropical plants right in the ground, just like they would be in a garden in the tropics. The house surrounds the courtyard, with sliding glass doors opening into it from all sides and a stone path running through it. I think there's also a pond and some seating too! If I become rich and famous (HA!) that idea is going to be incorporated into my dreamhouse. And I'll have a greenhouse too!

Nice pickups!!

Was Graham McKay still there on Sunday? He mentioned he might have been leaving on Saturday night and he had some very nice Phals too... Including a nice violacea and the Grand Champion orchid of the show: Phal. amabilis 'Ben Yu' AM/AOS. The amabilis were large healthy seedlings and just $50 too.

I wish i thought of picking up a couple of singles of that red cornu-cervi and the lueddemanniana, i was seriously considering getting a flask of each and i just didn't think of getting just a single.

From the Wu's i picked up a flask of those indigo violaceas, a couple flasks each of the hybrids and one of the tetraspis.

Now that you went and got a luedde and a cornu-cervi i'm wishing i got one! Each of them are possibly the nicest versions of that species you're likely to find anywhere in the world. You should have got one of the lobbii x amabilis as well, that looked like a really nice primary... oh and the amboinensis flava... and venosa.. lol.

Just a warning, if you plan on mounting them eventually, then growing them in moss will make it very hard to change them over. Their roots will be adapted for wet conditions and will take daily watering or more if mounted.

But i would just grow them in pots, either in sphag, in S/H (perlite for seedlings that size) or in a nice granular mix of husk/perlite/styrofoam/bark or whatever. All of those types you have will grow fine in a pot.

P.S. Do you want a schilleriana? I have a few schilleriana seedlings if you want one, i need to get rid of a couple to make room. They're mounted though and ready to be mounted onto something bigger.

Thanks Undergrounder, yeah, i'm happy with the pickups! i wish i had the cash to go and buy a lot more of the singles... alas i didnt. I'm hoping that Nancy is still in melbourne as i'm trying to organise to catch up with her and hopefully take some more off her hands. I didnt even think of singles until i noticed Nancy cleaning some of the seedlings she had just taken out of a flask - still the three i got cost me $110 in total but they're stunning seedlings. Are you interested in possibly selling a seedling or two out of your tetraspis (unless you only got the flask that had five in it then i can fully understand you would want to hold on to everyone)? If nancy is still about i can see if i can get you some singles if you're interested...I can imagine they would be fairly cheap as she doesnt want to take anything back with her if she can help it. I desperately wanted to get the venosa and the amboinensis. I heard the store holders at the conference didnt get the turn out they were hoping for?

I think pot culture is best for me at the moment - i dont have a glasshouse currently and i'm not in a position to give a mount the daily maintenance it would require in summer. One day when i have the proper setup then i will look at mounts.

I would lllooovvveeee some schilleriana! thank you so much! looks like i'm going to have to get a bigger aquarium to take some mounts i have some hybrid seedlings i can swap if you're interested - Phal Yu Pin Pearl or Phal Brother Peterstar

Underground, when i first replied the pics didnt come up! that Indigo violacea looks really nice! it's amazing the variations in the violacea! I wish i'd gotten a single of the indigo violacea, teraspis and the lobii X amabilis. I'm trying to not go nuts with the hybrids at the moment and focus on my goal of getting the species (ironic my saying that given i have four flasks coming in november - albeit one is an amabilis).

If there was a bellina there then there was no doubt i would have had one! they are simply stunning! Did you notice those Little Lady's that Easy Orchids had?

Cool, I sent you a pm.

None of the pics i posted are indigo violaceas, those are just like the violacea 'Blue' one you got, which is a selfing originally from Krull-Smith. All of those blue/indigo violaceas are from crosses originally by Krull-Smith and the Nortons: Birth of the Blues. The one you posted i think is really nice! big flower, great shape... the selflings should be nice,

The ones i posted (in order) are the tetraspis, Joy Nancy Lady, the red/yellow harlequin hybrid, then the amboinensis flava and the lobbii x amabilis

Yeah i did notice the Little Ladies, but they're pretty common nowadays, a lot of florists are selling them. They're all little miniature Phal hybrids with a lot of Phal. equestris in them, a company in Sydney imports them and sends them on to florists around Australia.. i already have one, it's about to flower now, i wouldn't get any more.
