Is this P bellina?
Got this little cutie at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens a while ago. When I asked the guy at checkout if it was Phal violacea, he just kind of shrugged and indicated that he just rang them up, he didn't grow them. I then did more research and found P bellina (violacea var. Borneo), which seems closest. Is this a very pale bellina, or some type of hybrid? At its last bloom, I seem to remember the colors being just a LITTLE more vibrant- it might be a little washed out since it just fully opened this morning. Will post new pics if the color comes in more.

Phal violaceae v. borneo has been moved to it's own species - Phal bellina. But without a label it's really impossible to tell. It could be a hybrid or just a variation of a species.

I may be wrong but I don't think this beauty has the coloring of either bellina or violacea. Most likely a hybrid of some sort...still beautiful  |

I'm also going to side with those who say it's not. It's almost certainly a hybrid of some cross or other, though bellina/violacea is quite likely in the plant's background.

The flower looks very similar to my Phal. Jennifer Palermo which is (Phal. tetraspis alba x Phal. violacea coerulea). Very nice growing.

Definietly not Phal bellina. Got the lip of a Phal manii or cornu-cervi. Phals in this group have anchor shaped lips.
Don't know what it really is. Could be a hybrid.

(Intensity of flower) color is sometimes dependent upon conditions (temp, etc) under which bud develops and blooms.
Did the label have a name? As it came from Selby, you might send a 'pickled' flower and narratvie (description) for a positive id. |
