This is my sad excuse for an Amabilis...not exactly what I was expecting. Ordered as a seedling and this is the first bloom. Obviously a cross between many Amabilis, as I was expecting a more classic Amabilis shape, but then I am not an expert. Just looks a little hybridized for my tastes.
Luckly at times when I walk past it I swear I smell lemon rinds..

I don't think it is sad at all! It's Really very lovely. First blooms are rarely representative of the full potential of a plant, so give it another year before you make up your mind.

I'd personally be thrilled with it. Sure, it looks a bit hybridized but it sure is beautiful!

Your phal is the typical "tame" P. aphrodite var. formosa.
For the decades, as you said, this variant had been crossed between many white phals for the gardening. Ironically, it is hard to find the pure P. aphrodite var. formosa even in my country.
Anyway it is still the beautiful white phal and very popular. Probably the most successful hybird phal in the world.

Thank you for the comments. Well its not that I don't think the flower is beautiful, just a little disappointed.
Thought I was getting a phal that was more representative of the species in the wild. I am getting to like it more as time goes on, but I will continue my search for a truer Phal. Amabilis..next time I guess I should shoot for a clone instead of a seedling.

* Thought this looked more like a Phal Aphrodite var. Formosa as well. so hard to tell though. Can anyone confirm by a picture? Would be nice to know what exactly I have. Def has to be a Aphrodite or a overly hybridized Amabilis. Lets hope I got shipped the right plant

Different variants cross together is still the species, but it will change the original appeareance.
This issue troubles many people. (The wide rage of habitat makes thses variants huge different)

Clone or seedling is not the point, ask your seller for a bloom pix to judge it.

I'm sorry. But long time ago I got a amabilis just like your, I prefer this than any hybrid white Phal. I think this has a more translucent white color than white hybrid Phal. At least it fragrant. I miss the smell of orchid. Many orchids I got label as fragrant isn't strong enough to perfume a small room as they way I wanted.
