Talking My new stuartiana and bastianii!!!!

I'm so happy!!! They arrived Friday and I've been fawning over them at every opportunity since!

John! I just love them!

The bastianii is in spike. I'll update this thread when it blooms!

Very nice! Love the leaves on the stu! I just got a bastianii yesterday. How weird is that?

The stuartiana is worth growing just for the foliage. I think I need one of those.

Thanks everybody!

Terri, that is weird! Post pictures when yours blooms! By the way, how's the weather where you are?....

Marylin, I initially fell in love just with the leaves of stuartiana. They are sooooo gorgeous! I'm not sure my camera captured it, but there's a subtle purple shading along the green bars on the newest leaf. But the flowers are equally fantastic. I can't wait for this little guy to bloom for me! It has the bases of two old flower spikes on it. John cut off the latest one before sending it to me so the poor little thing wouldn't exhaust itself. I'm going to make sure and keep it VERY happy so it grows big and strong and makes beautiful blooms for me! You should get one too!

Gloria and David, yes they are just sooo healthy! I was thrilled when I opened up the box, unwrapped them (they were very well packaged I might add. thanks again John!) and saw all those wonderful roots and the nice healthy leaves! I'm really becoming a phan of these species phals!

I can't wait for the bastianii to bloom! I'm afraid it's going to grow slower than a glacier because I can't stop staring at it!

And after hearing that the stuartiana likes a bit more water than other phals, I think I'm going to repot it into a sphag/CHC mix when I get home from college. I'm a real weirdo. Unlike most beginners, I have a tendency to overwater rather than underwater. Stop me if I'm making a huge mistake ok?

Evan, let me think....last week it was 91 for 2 days straight (right before the orchid show...not a good thing), and today it's 50 and looks like it could rain any second. Yep, typical Oregon weather.
