Phalaenopsis Lueddemanniana Coerulea 'Mituo #1'

First bloom meristem of Phalaenopsis Lueddemanniana Coerulea 'Mituo #1', the color is exactly what I was hoping for, but never got to witness in person. With it being winter now, outdoor natural sunlight is not feasible, but these pictures reflect fairly closely to what my eyes see when I look at it.

I included two angles to show one of the aspects of the color which I find really interesting. The blue almost seems to be like a prism, in that the angle you look at it (as well as the angle of the light) determines how much of the indigo color you see. I purchased this as a smaller seedling almost two years ago, and it's about due for a repot... Though I'll wait until flowering finishes on it's own because I want to enjoy the flowers for as long as possible and don't want to risk it dropping them.

I think this may have popped up there once and I missed out. I was hunting this one for a while. I know there was a window where it was offered from OrchidPhile Orchid Sales... But that window was brief and quantity was very limited. I think I got this one from Getzen08 on eBay. He had listed only two, maybe three tops, and I jump on it because the timing of the listing and my wallet agreed (which is rare). I prefer not to get plants on eBay, but for ones I can't find anywhere else, I occasionally make an exception.

Mr.FakeName told me the the "coffee" tetraspis comes from coerulea lineage and I see plenty of brown undertones in the two plants I've bloomed. Maybe there's a similar interplay of coerulea and brown in this species?

One additional thing I think is worth mentioning on the color, I am currently growing this in my unheated basement, on a lower rack where temps are currently in the 66 day / 63 night range (the coldest part of the year right now), the only reason for any variance in the day temps might be because of the heat put off by the lights and residual heat from the house (and furnace that's located in the basement)... The takeaway here being that these flowers developed on the colder side, and I know that temperatures can often impact color on phals.

So here is a question, if coerulea flowers have a lack of red pigment leaving only the violet/blue tones then how is your flower possible? Is it semi coerulea? It still has so much red!

Am I understanding that wrong? Id love to know how it was bred

Coerulea flowers don't lack red pigment, not sure where that thought originated. Lack of red pigment is characteristic of alba flowers (which can be white, yellow or green)

The ratio of the red pigment might be a bit different to give coerulea (which is lavender not blue). The color of this flower is amazing. Especially its characteristic of appearing to change depending on viewing angle.

To be honest, that thought originated in my own attempt to figure out what these things all really mean from a genetics standpoint. Its a little tricky to find clear genetics information so im not suprised to hear that I am off base and that it isnt that simple.

That makes some sense, but i guess i get confused since coerulea is so recessive how can it have interplay. Two seperate recessive traits occuring at the same time withought affecting one another i suppose... Phal genetics are confusing!
