I've had the plant for years and only gotten it to bloom for me now. I guess the conditions were never right for it.
This is supposed to be a small phal, but the newest leaves measure 30cm now which I don't consider small. The leaf area of each new leaf must be about double compared to when I got it.
It likes it hot and I give it hot weather about 6 months per year. Winter is pretty cold for it with nights down to 18 or even 15 degrees C. It hibernates for 3-4 months with no growth at all.
It's a winter/spring bloomer and that fits as we are in the middle of the winter now. This year has been warmer and drier which could have helped it to bloom.
One of my pickiest phals. Seems to love heat - more than I can give for almost half of the year. Many other heat lovers are growing and flowering well, e.g. bellina, violacea.
It has got about 5 spikes but only blooms on 2 spikes with one flower each. Latest spike didn't even produce a flower and another new spike just stopped growing as it showed itself.
