Does this still count as a species or is it a hybrid?

Well here it is, i think with the pale purple colour and slightly green gradient it is quite beautiful

It is still considered a species, Phal. violacia. I believe the tag should read Phal. violacea 'Blue Malaysia' x violacea 'Dark Red Norton' or 'Dark Red' Norton (maybe received or purchased from Norton), the two clonal names that were used to produce it. Maybe a Phal. specialist can weigh in on this.

Yeah she arrived a month ago and recently decided to develop a new bud for me



But the stem looks kinda funky Dunno if it will grow from either parts or was it crownrotten or what's the deal with it, never seen a phal stem like it, reminds me more of a simpodial

I have a Phal pallens that looks funky like that, and as you say, the plant had a problem with the crown, and made a new growth.

It is still a violacea, but with a conflicting tag name.

The Malaysian form of violacea is a natural, regional variation distinct enough to be recognized; but it's not officially described.
Red, Indigo, Norton etc are just commercial names for specific colours that were achieved via selective breeding. They are not clonal names or anything official either.

Proper tag should simply be "Phal violacea", but one would lose valuable information about the plant's ancestry.
