A GIANT Phaleonopsis? Male
Default A GIANT Phaleonopsis?

Does anyone know the name of this orchid? It looks like a Jurassic era phaleonopsis 😁. I’d be curious to see what the flowers look like; although with such extraordinary leaves something tells me that the flowers would be somewhat anticlimactic. To be at the scale and proportions of the common phals I would think these blooms would be a foot across on 8 foot long stems!

I photographed this specimen at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota, FL yesterday while vacationing here.

That's probably Bulbophyllum phalaenopsis.

Thanks ES. Ah yes, I looked that up and I think you got it. Very unusual blooms, they really stretch the imagination on what a flower looks like; as bizarre as the foliage.
