It is great to ask questions. I love plants so I am always glad to meet others who do, too.

If it will stay damp all the time, just make certain that plenty of air can circulate around the roots, including in the middle. Fresh air tends to keep the microbes that would rot roots under control. You could always put styrofoam, a rubber ball or anything else you might find in the middle.
