Camille, have you considered that might be thrip damage? Not the bigger flower thrips. I've seen that damage on my dendrobiums and a small epi ellipticum. Silvery, stripped, pitted. Very subtle st first, then pop! Just a thought.

Yes, I had considered it. I checked the plants that have it many, many times, looking for thrips, spider mites, or anything else that could explain it. I even took one in to work to examine the leaf under a stereo microscope.

That's frightening.

Maybe you could send a mail to Olaf Gruss or Bernard Lagrelle. They've seen it all and are super friendly, I'm sure they could give you a lead on this issue.
