My orchid looking sick

Hi guys I'm new here, I have a orchid and when I get it in January it was flowering and then when it died I cut the stem back after watching YouTube videos. It's not in direct sun but a bright room. I have moved it around to see if it would be any happier but it just looks old and not very healthy any ideas of what I'm doing wrong please before I throw it out.

Supermarket phals in the UK aren't designed to survive in my opinion.

It can be done and surprisingly Tesco orchids are usually in much better condition than most but generally it takes too much care and effort to revive it than it is worth.

Yours looks like it is being attacked by Insects. The white spots of the leaves look like a million little bite marks so I am guessing you have spider mites (or something else)

Have you inspected the underside of the leaves closely with a magnifying glass?

Spider mites are tiny, 1mm, sized spider like crawling insects.

The spots on the leaves are a kind if a waxy layer that is segregated by the plant so that water can rool down the leaves. Have you ever noticed that water doesn't seem to wet the leaves...it creates drops and roll down.
Also, I don't see anything wrong with your plant. Anyway, Phalaenopsis (the genre of your orchid) are medium to low light plants so move it away from the window if that's too bright (south window, for ex).

Another note: beware of youtube videos. Some are good but others are just a bunch of incorrect information. Better post here. We will always answer your questions.

I have noticed these spider mites before and I wiped them off and I wipe it every couple of days but haven't seen any on there. I will try moving it away from the window. Thanks for the advice I will let you know if the plant gets any better.

If you've noticed spider mites before and wiped them off, you still have spider mites. Keep at it, and you may want to try some Neem oil. I agree with KingKong on the possible spider mite issue. Kinda looks like it to me as well. Otherwise, plant looks healthy. If it's still in the original media you bought it in, might be a great time to repot it with fresh medium after giving it a bath in the sink with a bit of Dawn dish soap. It would also help with a mite issue.

Also, how do the roots look and how often are you watering? As mentioned, repotting, assessing and cleaning up dead and or rotten roots seems to be in order.

I had a look at the roots a they look like a silver colour and some are green at the tips. I normally water once a week I just but about 1inch of water in a bowl and then put the pot in for 15 minutes.

I suspect you're underwatering and it has mites/

You should flush water through the pot, top-down, to flush out mineral residues, saturating the potting medium. It looks coarse enough that root suffocation should not be an issue.

Are you referring to those growing above the media or throughout the pot? Also, it would be better to thoroughly soak all the media...this could be a key part of your problem....either run it under the faucet or put the pot in another container, fill with water and let it sit for 20-30min. You should prolly get a balanced fert to feed as well.

Ok I will try that method. So basically submerge so it all gets wet but not the orchid.
