South Park, I realize you are in Australia, so this may not be of much interest to you, but Peter Lin of Big Leaf Orchids (here in the USA) has been breeding phals with large lips and no fangs. You might enjoy browsing his website. Big Leaf Orchids

Thanks fishmom! That site you posted is of huge interest to me. I haven't seen that one before. Even briefly browsing showed wonderful phal flowers.

I have to double-check later on my home computer browser. Some links there are coming up on my browser with broken image icons. Eg in the species A to Z section. But I love what I see from the images that do appear there! Thanks again. Will definitely visit that site a lot!

You asked for the photos So here they are SouthPark.

The red flowered ones larger flowers are 120mm across and the white ones are 135mm. The third branch was broken off the red one by the cat and my wife just hadn’t got round to telling me

These may or may not be impressive by current standards I really don’t know but my point is they are so damn easy. I’m doing all the things wrong like growing them down to 12 degree night-temps and watering with overhead sprinklers but they just keep on flourishing.

It would be an exaggeration to say I treat them with neglect but they get only a fraction of the care I give to my catts.

Southpark, I have a Phalaenopsis Liodora which has a lovely scent and it gets the same treatment as my hybrid phals and does just fine.

ArronOB, my old house never got over 12 degrees in winter and my phals all did fine - I think they gradually acclimatized to the drop in temperature! The house I live in now is a little warmer, but still mostly around 14-17 in winter, and they are still all thriving.

Arron ----- beautiful! I saw this photo you posted last night on my mobile, but waited a bit till now (on PC) to respond - easier on keyboard haha.

I really like that photo, with the extremely nice array of red flowers with the other plant having single white. Very nicely photographed - and thanks for sharing this one Arron. Really enjoying what I see.

The flowering you got is impressive by any standard. You're certainly providing what these phals need to get these excellent flowers and display! Beautiful!

Pippa. Absolutely and totally appreciated your post - and for mentioning that particular name!!

The store didn't put any name other than 'Phalaenopsis sp.' on the tag. And my first phal orchid (this one, the only phal I have) is my only "no I.D." plant. I didn't mind - as I just love the colour and features of this particular flower. Your post was extremely appreciated!

Maybe it's possible that the orchid I purchased is related to Phalaenopsis Sweet Memory, of which one of the cultivars is called Phalaenopsis Sweet Memory 'Liodoro'.

Ny orchid is probably not a 'Liodoro', but may well have ties with the grex Phal. Sweet Memory. Maybe. The diamond shaped lip is a nice feature.

@SouthPark, I had the same Phal (at least it looked the same). Lost it to my noobness years ago and have missed it ever since.

Check if yours is fragrant! Mine had a light floral scent in the daytime that was very charming. I love how the colors seem to change depending on the lighting too. Such a splendid Phal 🙂 Thanks for sharing. Hope you can figure out the weird tag ID haha.

Oh geez !!!!! Edew --- that is the exact same flower!!! Incredibly happy that you posted those photos here to share. That's truly the same one! I love those photos you took. I didn't expect that - took me by surprise. Your photographs are extremely nice.

You are right. The flower colour is quite remarkable depending on the lighting. The lip can become quite a brilliant purple/violet. And those two purple vertical side-lobes makes the look even more attractive and interesting. Great choice.

I will smell those flowers and report back later! If I ever do find out (with any stroke of luck) a name for this one, then I'll definitely post the name here, and even send a message to you in the messaging system. Thanks again!

======

UPDATE: I wasn't able to detect any fragrance, but I'm sure that there will be some at certain times of day. My growing area is a little breezy sometimes too.
