Mount my P. bellina? Male
Default Mount my P. bellina?

My little bellina looks happy right now, but it's in plastic, with sphagnum moss. As small as it is, I think it would make a nice mount in my vivarium. I've just never tried it before with a Phal.

With adequate humidity (which should certainly be the case in your vivarium) Phals love to be mounted. After all, they're epiphytes. We put them in pots for our own convenience in our dry houses but I think that mounting is a great idea for your set-up. A hint... if you use any sphagnum at all, put it over the roots, not between the roots and the mount. You want the new roots to attach to the mount, not the sphag. A bit of sphanum over the top of the roots may help them make the transition, since the existing roots have developed in the pot environment.

P. bellina should work well mounted as long as you can keep it adequately hydrated. And because of the way they grow (and bloom) I think they work better mounted in terms of presentation than many other species. My only other advice would be to proceed with extreme caution when dealing with notoriously terrible vendors like orchids.com / normans. I definitely recommend sticking with reputable nurseries.
