Phalaenopsis (syn. Sedirea) japonica

This is an easy plant that is close to standard Phal sized. I got it a few years ago from someone who couldn't bloom it (mounted on a plaque), so I threw the whole thing into a large clay pot with large grade orchiata. It grows inside under bright lights (Cattleya light) and gets watered 1x or 2x per week. I actually watered only 1x per week this winter and I think this bloom is less nice than last year, in terms of individual flower quality. However, I've got the current spike plus two more on the way, so I'd say its happy. Enjoy!

Yes, it definitely looks happy! It's quite beautiful. I hope you're right that they are "easy plants." I got my first one a couple months ago. It's small but supposed to be blooming size. I'm hoping to be able to enjoy those gorgeous little flowers and the nice fragrance someday. Thanks for sharing those nice photos!

Oh. My. WOW!! Between you and fishmom, I see that I need to step up my Sedirea (Phal?) game! Both of you have shared simply breathtaking pics of your gorgeous blooms, so thank you both! I'll have to pay more attention to how I care for mine, I think I've been doing it all wrong. Mine is in a 2 inch clear pot (with slots on the sides, holes on the bottom as well) with about a 1:1 mix of LECA and the larger-sized Seramis pebbles, and I water as it's approaching dryness, but I don't let it get bone dry. I've been really aware of how much fertilizer it's gotten, as I've heard that they're a bit more sensitive to excess salts than many other Phals, and I've adjusted the frequency/dosage accordingly, and I give it a good flush every 2-3 weeks where I use slightly more pressure, as well as warmer water, to aid with the solubility of any excess salts that might be hanging out in the pot. Thank you both for the inspiration, and happy Halloween (this was from April; I'm so super on-the-ball, I know)!

Does this live on a bright windowsill or is it grown under lights? Does it experience any sort of temp variation in the winter? I’m assuming there isn’t much of a day/night variation since it’s indoors, is that correct? Mine had been living outdoors for the past two years and I’m thinking about moving it inside this upcoming year. It really didn’t do much of anything over the past year except put out some great root growth and finish maturing a leaf that had been sluggishly growing for the prior 6 months

Yep, inside under lights! I found this one absolutely hates the heat and seems to thrive under monotonous indoor temps.
