I thought it would be cool to see what is on your fantasy , dream, money is no object, wishlist.
Doesn’t have to be expensive, could just be rare, exotic, whatever. Please add a pic to the post so people can also see what keeps you up at night
For me the two orchids that I have wanted but can’t seem to find at a reasonable price are the fdk. After dark black pearl and the dendrophylax lindenii
I have tried to get the former and it keeps falling apart for various reasons... I find the flowers are too amazing and it is a shock in any garden to see THAT black
The Florida ghost is actually a long time obsession of mine ever since I was in the Everglades (deep) on a camping trip in 10,000 islands and I found one. I actually was quite startled because I thought it was a fleshy spider and jumped half up the tree. My buddy told me what it was and how incredible of a find it was and I was hooked! I won’t buy one unless I can be certain it was not harvested so I haven’t found one I can trust.
I am not the owner of these images...they were the first good google images to come up
One dream orchid ..... or 'in my dreams' orchid is called Rth. Rosella Supreme 'Cynthia'. It's an 'in my dreams' orchid, because the chances of it being shared is probably zero, or close to zero. But this is ok. At least it fits the dream orchid category.
We know in many cases - beauty (or equivalent) is in the eye of the beholder. All orchids are wonderful and fantastic. Obviously, there may be some that have particular features that somebody particularly likes - more than a lot. Rosella Supreme 'Cynthia' does it for me.
But my favourite all-time orchid is Rlc. Memoria Helen Brown 'Sweet Afton'. Haven't quite got there yet (in acquiring one). Do-able. But still haven't quite got there!

I have an FDK After Dark that I bought just a few weeks ago. The flowers aren't quite as dark as the ones in your picture though. I love how it looks like an alien plant and was told it was really easy to take care of in the winter when it needs almost no watering. I completely understand your obsession with that particular type of orchid. I tried to upload a picture, but for some reason it won't let me add an image
There's some categories of "fantasy orchids" for me: A) Can find, can't grow
Orchids that I can buy right now (disregarding price), but I wont be able to grow them.
- Bulbophyllum frostii
- Corybas geminigibbus
- Hymenorchis javanica
- Bulbophyllum mirum
The reason I cant grow them is because it's too hot where I live for half the year (Im sure these would grow fine if the temps were dry season temps throughout the year)... making a highland chamber could be worth it...
B) Can't find, can grow
Things I could grow if I somehow found them for sale, but I likely never will.
-Disperis neilghereensis
-Any Hot-growing Corybas species (C. Pictus occasionally available, but I haven't had success - yet!)
-Any Hot-growing Habenaria species.
-Pterostylis curta (Found on the tropical New Caledonia so I guess it can be grown hot?)
-Eulophia macrobulbon
-Many Hot-growing Bulbophyllums (e.g. Bulbophyllum triste, B. moniliforme, etc. I especially like the fat deciduous ones like B. triste)
-Spiranthes sinensis
-Any Hot-Growing pleurothallids, especially Restrepias!
-Any hot-growing Acanthephippium
-Cryptostylis javanica
-Hot growing Porpax
Can't find, can't grow
-Anything cold-growing with tubers!
-Includes: Ophrys, Serapias, other Pterostylis, cold-growing Corybas.
-Weird cold-growing bulbophyllums
I have always loved Telipogon, but they are notoriously difficult to grow and also both expensive and hard to find. I also want to grow Cypripedium species (and hybrids), but they are outside my budget as well. Phalaenopsis bellina is another of my favorites, it is hard to find a good clone for a decent price though (all of my favorite clones seem to be upwards of $200). Beyond that, I love South American Terrestrials such as Chloraea. I have a list a million miles long but these are all I can think of right now.

Oh right, add Pecteilis sagarikkii (or whatever its name is these days) to the list.
Maybe a little basic but I want a really fragrant Iwanagara Apple Blossom. I read "Hihimanu" was a very fragrant variety but can't find one online or locally. Any suggestions would be welcome

I got mine from Kawamoto a couple years ago. My 'Fantasy' clone is just as fragrant, and imo prettier.

Springwater Orchids has them in flask fairly regularly.

If cost is no object, Orchids Limited has them, or at least did quite recently - that they have grown themselves, I'm pretty sure from seed. You certainly can trust them with regards to the provenance, and to supply excellent plants. Whether you are willing to gamble a significant chunk of change is something you will have to decide. I recently took the plunge and got one, I think two years from blooming if I am very lucky.
Ooooh gonna have to check that out.

Do they deflask or only sell them flasked? I have not had great success in the two attempts I made at de-flasking and tiny dead orchids make me sad
