It might have Cattleya walkeriana as a parent (or distant grandparent). This is one of the few Cattleyas that bloom like this naturally. C. walkeriana blooms from a new growth with no leaves just like the picture you show.

Thanks Ryan! I appreciate your lines. I saw walkeriana pics and it seems the same situation with my plant. I don´t know the hybrid name, but it seems Ports of Paradise. I will check if there is walkeriana blood in it.

Updating news with this plant. Well, Nature is wise. The older bud blasted and dropped. The only bud is growing and it seems that it would have a normal size. I suppose plant decided just to save energy for one bud and focus to let the new lead growing to mature and, I hope, get ready for new buds to bloom.

Indeed I will post pic soon.

Regards!!!

Here is the flower!!!!

LOVELY!!! The flower is as good as always. Normal size, terrific lip... I love it!!! As you can see, the sheat turned black. By the way this is a NOID, but I suppose it's a Ports of Paradise. But it hasn´t fragrance.

Hope you enjoy it!!!
