Got to add currently the only scented orchid I have. Bratonia (sometimes sold as Brassia) Toscane (or Toscana... I think the plants are coming in from various places in Europe and there's some translation issues!)
Anyway... faint at first, strengthened after a couple of days, seems stronger in the mornings mainly. Sometimes it needs a close sniff, other times I can smell it at a distance.
The scent... definitely fresh ground pepper, but there's another side to it that's harder to define (especially as it seems sweeter at some times than others). I read something that said Brassia's smelt of hyacinth. I think tending that way, but not really. I don't like hyacinths: to me they smell like public loos where the cleaner's trying to hide the smell! This is more delicate. Today when I came in and had a sniff it smelt like sweet green tea (with pepper).
With the bacon someone else had, all we need now is an orchid that smells like buttered bread and we can have a bacon butty and a cuppa...
