Don't fret .... Half teaspoon of dish soap, not dish washer soap To 1 gallon of water, poured thru should take care of the free loaders. Also a weak cup of tea will work - great to drive out ants too

I'll try the dish soap right now....I did add a little dish soap with the neem oil last night. I used the following formula:
1/2 tsp neem oil and 1/8 tsp dish soap to 1/2 litre water.

Helen, definately check your new bark in the bag. The bugs may have come in with that. I've had infested bark before and I just tossed it, but it's cheap here. I prefer to use coco husk chunks instead of bark as it doesn't seem to break down as fast and I've never seen bugs in it.

Poor little buggers. They probably are just tiny springtails. Collembola. Poor little decomposers who also by the way, like to eat fungus that might not be good for your orchids. In my personal opinion, there is such a thing as too sterile. Sterilizing everything might actually open up a niche for an invading fungus to lay dormant till conditions are right again. When you blow on the little bugs do they seem to jump around like they had springs on their behinds? If so, they are harmless, and you probably have them in all your potted plants anyway.

Not sure about jumping, but they run really fast ...LOL
Zip, zip every which way....I noticed on one phal that the bottom leaf that was hiding under the bigger one, was half chewed up....imagine....I can't imagine these little guys could have eaten it away like that. ??

If it's eating a leaf, it isn't a spring tail or decomposer ...

Leaf chewed? Umm I don't think we're talking about root runners then - You have a photo?

Thumbs up

no photo, I don't have a digital camera, just a webcam which probably wouldn't have captured the little deevils ....I decided after seeing the leaf chewed up to repot all 4 of them and I tossed the old stuff out....I didn't want to take any chances. I have still kept them separated from my other orchids. All looks well again in Helen's orchid world again! I wish I knew what they were though...if I ever see them again I'll have my sister-in-law photo them....then this mystery will be solved.
