I knew more of the story 2 years ago at WOC, but its getting fuzzy now. Actually I have a picture of one of the plants they swapped for that one, but its at home and I'm out of town.
Funny thing is that Krull-Smith probably has several flowers as good as that one, but its a nice one. The value is relative. What Joseph Wu and Frank smith paid for the plants they traded is probably negligible. They both grew them from seed. As long as they got something they want, its all good.
Sorry you had to flask early. I had to do that recently myself with a flask. It was all jumbled up, so I was afraid everything would die. Luckily I do a little orchid lab work and was able to replate the small ones into more flasks, but sometimes they are contaminted and it doesn't show up until you spread them out.
