How to differentiate cattleya lueddemaniana from cattleya labiata?
Default

Here is a C. lueddemanniana wingged tip. You can see from the side view that the tip has an extrusion that looks like wings.

I don't have a labiata in flower at the moment... but here is C. mossiae. You can see that it does not have the 'wings' on the tip. I don't know if any other catts have this or if all lueddemannianas have this tip (ask a Botanist on that)...but a well known and respected cattleya grower has noted this wing to be a diagonstic sign of C. lueddemanniana.

Here is a double sheath of C. labiata:

Some only have one sheath like C. purpurata:

Or from a single dried up sheath like Guarianthe skinneri:

And some have no sheath at all and the buds appear from atop the psuedobulb without any protective sheath.

And of course, some just do their own thing and flower sheathless, one, or two sheaths...

And here's a photo of C. lueddemanniana alba (top left), C. labaita coerulea (top right), and C. jenmanii tipo (bottom). There is alot of variability among them and sometimes... they honestly look too close to tell apart. C. lueddemanniana seems easier to tell apart .

The best thing would be to contact the seller and see. I've had sellers ghost me when I asked about it but... if they are a reputable seller they should at least answer your questions
