Building a Glove Box Male
Exclamation Building a Glove Box

Hello,

I just finished building a Glove Box. This will be a tutorial of how I made mine and some tips if you try this yourself.

Materials you will need:

1 - 60 liter clear storage bin w/ side locking lid - $15
2 - 4" PVC toilet flanges - $9 each
2 - 5" metal hose clamps - $2 each
1 - long cuff rubber gloves - $7
1 - door gap weatherstripping - $9
1 - clear silicone tube - $5
1 - exactoknife - $5
12 - 3/4" nuts n bolts w/ washers - $10

Everything cost under $70 and you can make a cheaper style, but I wanted to make mine so it could take some abuse.

Anyways, I took the 4" toilet flanges and traced the opening onto the storage box.

Then with the exactoknife I cut out the holes. I am also very happy that I bought a comfortable exactoknife for this was very hard on your fingers.

I found the best way to do this was to cut a guide line first, then using softer faster cuts till the blade went through. I learned this the hard way and tried to cut to deep in the beginning and ooops! Also cut on the outside of the line you traced, then you don't have to trim as much when trying to get the toilet flange into place.

When the holes are cut and the toilet flanges slide into them with out any catches. I filled the spaces on the toilet flange with silicone, slide them into place and then rotated them to mix the silicone around. (this silicone is white but dries clear)

I then let this sit so that the silicone can dry for 24 hours. I put something in the inside of the box to push it up a bit and then used the books for a bit of weight while it dried.

After 24 hours, I found that the silicone didn't stick well enough and had to go back to the hardware store to fix it. I bought 12 of these, one for each hole on the toilet flange.

I drilled some holes into the box and put in the nuts n bolts. VERY strong now!!

I then took the weatherproofing and stuck it all around the edge of the box in hopes to make a better seal.

I stretched the glove cuffs around the holes, just so that the finger tips will touch the other side of the box. With the gloves in place I tightened the metal hose clamps ,but only snug tight.

TAAA DAAA!! If you followed along you will have a very secure, sturdy Glove Box!

Nice! Thank you, I feel like I will probably use this in the future.

What is the best way to go about disinfecting the inside when you're going to use it? I can't really find much online about that...

Most people say "stick a spray bottle of bleach solution inside and squirt it around. A lot." re: sterilising the inside; basically, try and saturate the air and make all the surfaces wet with bleach solution; then wait for a while for the bleach to work (15-20 mins or so) before doing anything. Obviously, put everything you need into the box before you do this, seal, and start spraying. If your hands find it hard going, get a small pressure sprayer.

Nice DIY project Bazinga - I'd have probably used a dremel or something like that, although cutting circles with a dremel is always hard work...

Nice tutorial!! Thanks for going to the trouble of remembering to document all of this!! (I can't ever remember when I want to photo-document something!) I think I will probably use this one day! (Hopefully, by that point, I will have gained more patience! Because waiting for seed pod maturity... then flowering size plants... It'll be much-needed! Lol)

This is a solid post. Great tutorial. For those considering this, get as big a bin as you can find. You'd be surprised how cramped its gonna get. I've had the most trouble actually finding a large bin with a clear lid. Apparently not that popular.

Make the lid the base?

Not sure if that would work. There is alot of bleach and peroxide sprayed in the bin. I guess it depends on where you use it, with the lid on the bottom the bleach and stuff might or will leak out.

I found them at homedepot and rona

I built a glovebox like this but it was much, much, much simpler. I've been using it for about a year with success. I used the big tub like you, cut the holes, then took small 1 gallon plastic pots and cut them to make the rings. Inserted rings into the holes, wrapped extra long dish gloves onto the rings, and Gorilla taped everything really well. sturdy as a board and it took about 20 minutes.

the key is gorilla tape...
