Phal with tissue collapse. What is wrong?

I seldom give product plugs. My phals looked like that. My hard water somehow binds up essential minerals. I started using cal mag once a month and rain/filtered water. I agree on the pitting but I also added a probiotic once a month which helped that. Ray has Quantum, or you can find it at Amazon. I would cut and dust that leaf, and if you can inexpensively virus test the other plant? If not, the older leaves will die off but, if it's an important plant, isolate it and try a probiotic.

I also vote sunburn. Even if you have other phals in the same place, some can take more light than others, and if this plant was new, it wouldn't have been used to getting much light, and putting it out there with your others could lead to sunburn. When you get new plants, gradually move them into wherever you're going to keep them if that place gets lots of light. If you just stick them out there, they'll get burned.

Also remember that the sun changes position in the sky through the year. A spot that might be fine for a phal in April might get way too much direct sun by July when the sun has moved higher up into the sky, so you have to pay attention to where the direct sunlight lands, and move your plants periodically through the summer to keep them from getting burned. You may not be able to leave them in the same place all year.

Hard water doesn't directly "bind" minerals, but it can interfere with their uptake.

There are articles out there that discuss two significantly different temperatures. If the two temperatures are significantly different, and if the temperature changes from 1 of those temperatures to the other significantly different temperature at a 'relatively' fast rate ------ exactly how quick -- not sure. But if relatively quick, such as a warm plant brought into an air-con or cold environment, then the leaf cells can be destroyed ------ or collapse --- possibly resulting in what is seen in the pics.

They had to give names for cell busting - and one name was 'mesophyll collapse'.

Another way to get that to happen is ----- warm/hot leaves ------ and then water the leaves with cold water. We don't want to do that of course. But that's an example of the quick temperature change ----- possible results of such situation.
