5 New Orchids Male
Default 5 New Orchids

!!Well it has been awhile since I visited the Orchid board. I was in the hospital for 12 days, I'm doing good. Let's go onto more important things Orchids.

I went to RF Orchids in Homestead, Fl., I bought 5 plants all in spike, 1) Phal. Bellina (species) (to re-place the one that died), 2) Phal. cornu cervi (species) (red form), 3)Psy. Mariposa 'Peloric' (hybrid), Zygo. 'Jumpin Jack' (hybrid) and number 5) A Cattleya (no name--I'll have to wait for it to bloom) , I bought it at Ideal Orchid in Pompano Beach, Fl.
I didn't re-pot the Phal. Bellina, Psy. Mariposa and the Zygo. JumpinJack , they are all in bud and bloom. I re potted the Cattleya and the Phal. cornu cervi semi hydroponically.
I'm new to S/H growing (I started in May 2018), I've lost a few plants, but, I expected to lose them. Most of the plants I started S/H where not well established and my environment is not to good either (I grow my plants in a Florida room facing SSW). The biggest problem is Temperature, the room gets very hot, I now have a portable A/C to regulate the rooms temperature. I have found do to my conditions I have had to a just my watering schedule, it seems some of my plants need Daily watering and the others seem to need every other day watering. I believe once the plants have become established and the roots reach the reservoir they will acclimate them selves to sitting in water.
I'm having a problem figuring out if a Zygopetalum is a Warm or Intermediate temperature plant. Some of the information I have read say 70-80 degrees fahrenheit and other information says they will do OK at higher temperatures. I would like some feed back from members. I'm happy to be back...Zoren...
