A single, 1/4" hole would be better than a single, larger one, as it allows the solution more time to flush the medium as it drains.

I did experiment...i went 1/4 and it got clogged too often so enlarged it in 1/16 increments until i got here..I also fill the container completely and hold the hole so it stews in the water for a couple seconds before i release it...Also, i feel like a really vigorous flush is better than a slow one as it actually flushes out the old dead root or debris in the res portion because it is a more turbulent exchange

you cats have been doing this WAYY longer than me but i have to wiggle with the technique because of the heat...this is not super practical in open sun...all the containers are DRY by night...
i tweak with your good recipe

i wasn't trying to be catty

i am amazed by the effectiveness of this technique...it is not quite perfect for outside in my neighborhood but the things i have done with it in my bathroom (phrasing ) and with rescue plants is basically miraculous.
I am a scientist trapped in a lawyer's body without the education...so i am forced to be a relentless tinkerer and occasionally succeed in something

I did manage to finally make it rain from my trees today ?!?!? lol no small feat..i'll see if the pics are worth a damn

I also highly recommend you get a drill bit meant for plastic rather than using heat to create holes, as that releases noxious gases.
