Here are some pics of my oncidium Sharry Baby that was repotted in semi-hydro back in December. I've had her on a seedling mat to help keep the roots warm but winters here are mild so I wasn't too worried.

She's taken to the repot super well and has exploded in root growth as you can see. I've got so many new growths growing quickly now that its warming up for summer. She drinks through the reservoir in about a week but I imagine that will change come summer.

I have another Sharry Baby hybrid which was repotted a month after this one that is showing the same root growth and is filling in the pot now.

You need not, and probably should not wait for the reservoir to be empty before rewatering. As good as it looks, it'll do better if you water more frequently.

Do you think it would be alright to "top off" the reservoir with plain r/o water between weekly flushings with nutrient solution (90-100ppm)?

At the moment, the reservoir never goes dry but the water level does get down to the very bottom. I know it doesn't get dry because the leca looks like its staying damp but I've cut it close a few times with the weather warming up.

My experience with Oncidiums in S/H is the more frequently you water, the better they grow. I wish I had time to water mine every day.

I use a weak fertilizer solution at every watering. It works out to about 1/8 teaspoon of MSU fertilizer per gallon of water.

Here she is again, putting out a flower spike! I didn't think she would spike for a while since I repotted this orchid only four months ago!

I have several oncidium I'm preparing to move over to S/H. Purchases or gifts throughout the year, in bark mix, and now finished blooming and starting new growth.

For me, it's the only way to go with 'em. Too easily distracted to stay on top of watering otherwise. I keep reservoir topped up with R/O in between weekly to every ten days flush.
