Very pretty.

I’m novice with orchids and I only grow Phal, Orchids from the Oncidium Alliance but in the spring I want to get a couple Cattleya. I intend to grow then in S/H as I do with most of the one that I have.

Have you been growing this one a long time in S\H ?

Congrats on this nice blooming success.

Thanks...you might be able to get a sale price on a Cattleya now. They like a little more light than the Phal. First Rays webpage is the place to learn. Just make sure the roots are showing growth. (it sounds like you know what to do though) I got it bare root in summer of 2016 and this is the first bloom.

Cattleyas do well in S/H. Others have mentioned you really do need to wait to move them until new roots are just forming.

My experience has been they take longer to adapt than do some other orchids. That might be because I only have time to water them once a week.

Also realize a standard (larger growing) Cattleya will outgrow a typical 1 quart or liter S/H pot within a year. That size pot is more appropriate for seedlings, compacts and minis. After they outgrow the 1 quart you move them up to something larger.
