Update on S/H repotting - Orchid Board

Here is an update of several of the orchids that I repotted in S/H medium. Its been several weeks now since they have been repotted and it seems that they like it

I find myself now looking everywhere around the house for S/H containers. Our local cash and carry has 16oz containers very inexpensive so next time I go to Bend I plan to stop by and get a few. Thanks to Ray's for my first S/H kit

One question is every other day or so I run water through the containers is that alright?

Hi Sheridan,
Your s/h orchids look great!
I have all my phals in s/h and they love it too!
With regard to flushing the pot- I don't think you need to do it every other day, unless you reall want to.

I've not had any mineral deposit problems since I started flushing every second watering, other OB members flush every week.
BTW, cheap plastic jugs ($2.50) make great s/h containers for larger plants!

Hi Sheridan, Enjoyed playing your golf course many years ago. It's a nice place. I drive by on my way south once in awhile and it sure has grown. Used to be hard to find the sign at the side of the road. Anway, glad you are having success with the sh. I live north of you in Wa. and have had success too, but there are some plants that I have found to be stubborn and I moved them back into bark. I just started moving all my plants out into a greenhouse and I'm hoping they will do better there. Have a great day. mojomick

Thanks Buds and Mojomick for the positive comments. Being new at the S/H potting I am not sure if I should wait until the water at the bottom is gone??? So I have been filling up the containers every couple of days just to keep the medium moist. Is that wrong? Should I wait until the water evaporates?

They seem to be adapting pretty well. I have 4 new mini catts coming

Mojomick The golf course at the Ranch is gearing up for the spring and summer season if it ever arrives. Been really cold and snowy

. Can't put my chids out in the greenhouse as yet its to cold.
We lived in Washington for about 11 years between Aberdeen and Rochester, WA. To much rain for this lady love the high desert

Ranchnanny, I refill my pots whenever it looks like they are going dry. Oftentimes, there is still moisture evident in the sides and then I will water the next day. Some of my pots get watered every couple of days, others a week or more. I have read that it doesn't hurt to water more often, but don't know that for a fact. I love the high desert too. My new greenhouse will be year round. Am not looking forward to the electric bills. But oh well. We had snow flurries yesterday but forcast is for 66 by Friday. Typical spring. have a great day. mojomick
