Vuylstekeara in S/H need to be reassured
Hello,
I just bouhgt today a Vuylstekeara yokara perfection x Oncidium leucochilum, it came not potted and wrap, the roots were also wrap in sphaigne (I cleaned the roots) and I had to pot it.
It actually had a spike with flower buds. I was not sure what to do, pot it in regular medium and wait for the right time to transfert it to semi S/H culture or just do so right a way since it had to be potted anyways. As I was told the roots always have to be keep damp I believed it would adapt easily to S/H. That It would be safe to put it in the S/H way.
But now I fell insecure about my choice. I do have proper mix for Oncidium, should I repot tomorrow and wait until after the flowering periods is over to conver it to S/H ?
Here is a few pictures.
The roots

Potted (I'll include better picture of how it is potted tomorrow)

I have two methods of helping transition plants to semi-hydroponic culture. One is to plant extra deep in the pot so the existing roots can help wick moisture immediately and new roots won't have as far to grow to do the same. The other thing is to mist the top of the leca daily with rain water until the new roots have grown down far enough into the media.

Thank you I'll make sur to mist the top of the pot daily, some of existing roots are also going down pretty deep in the pot.
I'm correct when I say that Vuylstekeara as an Oncidium hybrid should convert easily to the S/H culture ? I read about a few Oncidium hybrids being converted easily such as Beallara, Odontocidium and some others but nothing about Vuylstekeara. So this why I was a little worried about my choice.

Vuylstekeara (Vuyl.) should convert to S/H as well as any other Oncidium intergeneric hybrid.
I love the name. Having 3 consonants in a row makes the Polish part of my brain tingle.
I think they're now properly called Miltonidium instead of Vuylstekeara. Vuyl. is Cochlioda (Cda.) x Miltonia (Milt.) x Odontoglossum (Odm.), but Cochlioda and Odontoglossum are supposed to be called Oncidium now.
I think most people prefer the sound of Vuylstekeara to Miltonidium, and they seem to be sold as Vuyl. most of the time.

After looking into The Royal Horticultural Society data base this one is now renamed Oncidopsis
The International Orchid Register / RHS Gardening
Either ways it's not as charming as Vuylstekeara
I knocked a flower down today when I had to change the spot of the pot. Here is picture of that cuty as display on another pot, really like it.

You are correct, very cute. I'm with Kim, the taxonomists can quit any time.

Another tip about using rain water is do not use cold rain water. I collect it, then use a fish tank heater in it until it is room temperature or even warmer. You can also collect snow, warm it, and use it for the orchids.
