I just received a clowesia Rebecca Northern and it's just starting a new growth. Is it safe for me to put it in semi hydro now with minimal water if I take care to not get water in the new growth?

Fred Clarke from Sunset Valley Orchids recommends that you let the roots grow a bit before you start to water.

It looks like the plant is already in LECA. Is it in a semi-hydro pot? Anyway, there is no difference in the recommended care whether the plant is going to be in semi-hydro or an organic medium. Let the roots develop to 3-5 inches;(or 4-7, or 2-4, depending on who you believe) the leaves will be unfurled by then also. Then you can water.

Yes, it is already potted in leca. When I received it, it was very wobbly in the pot it was in. I figured it would be ok if I repotted it now as opposed to waiting until the roots were longer and could get damaged. I will leave it alone now without water. Thank you.

If it is wobbly, I would put it in whatever you intend to be the pot for this year and stabilize it so the new growth has the best possible condition. No water though, until the roots have more growth.

Thank you for your comments. It is potted and I have left it alone.
