Rock wool for semi-H?

I hate the stuff....I tried with several orchid babies and they just drowned as ray said, it holds too much moisture....and optimist, I think that little bundle you find in some plug babies is a type of foam, not rock wool.....I tried using it for garden veggie seed as well, but it seems the seedlings start fine, then the roots hit that rock wool and stop cold....it is too tough for them to penetrate. I spent hours peeling it off and transplanting....when I got the plants out, I thought, well, I will pull it into clumps and use it in the bottom of large pots, to save on potting soil....that was a flop too....nasty stuff in my opinion
