And finally some good news!
Was watering yesterday and found a couple of happy surprises in my repotted into S/H paphs (Feb. 2016). My charlesworthii x has a gorgeous, big, new root and my vietnamense x malipoense looks like it's growing a new spike. Oh hooray!

I was nervous too, but these ones have not (knock on wood) skipped a beat. They've seemed happy as can be. The other paph I did a trial with was putting out a new fan and that has just kept on growing (Magic Lantern [Wavy Balloon]). And honestly, growing more than either of them had before.

FWIW, I find paphs to be the easiest plant to move into S/H culture. In bud, in bloom, dormant, it doesn't seem to matter.

I want to give it a try as well. I just got my first s/h pots in your sale Ray but for now I will keep them in bark.

Your vietnamense x malipoense has the most beautiful leaves! I recently surrendered to small phaph mottled leaves. I have 4 now, and love them all.

I remember reading that on your site, but many people here in the Vancouver Orchid Society have said they just can't find success in S/H with the paphs. Especially, they said, in greenhouses. I'm not sure why…maybe too cool and damp with all our rainy weather? So, I was worried (even though I'm just a windowsill grower), but I followed your instructions to the letter and the two that were basically stagnating on me have just jumped to life.
I do have a question regarding heat mats…is there a temperature point at which you should not be using the heat mats? For instance, we had a heat wave (truly, we broke records) of summery temps for a week between 25-29 degrees Celsius. Even though I'd just recently repotted some new paphs into S/H, and still had them on the heat mats, I turned the mats off at that temp because I thought that might be too much bottom heat. I didn't think they'd need the extra 10-20 degrees the heat mats provide.
Optimist,
Thank you! That's a wonderful compliment.

No-Pro-mwa, just move one of them! It won't notice the move and will probably take off growing. I move my Paph seedlngs as soon as they show up. It's so much easier taking care of them in S/H than in bark or whatever in a regular pot.
