changed over to s/h

hi i have just changed all my orchids over to a mix of the clay balls and perelight {not too sure on the spelling} as i have been having problems with ants living in the bark.

i have just used the same pots that they were in and just put them in mix. they seem to be more stable than when in bark . i am not too sure if this was is considerd semi hydro seeing as they are not sitting in water.
has anyone planted this way and if so have you had any sucess

Several of our members grow this way very successfully.

I have many of my orchids in lava rock only and they do quite well. The rock doesn't break down like bark does over time.

I have a few plants in LECA in normal pots, and you're right, it's not semi-hydroponics, but is it workable, if you water frequently enough.
