Free AOS Webinar on Semi-Hydroponic Orchid Growing
If you are a member of the American Orchid Society, you may attend my free webinar on Wed, Oct 7, 2015, from 8:30 PM - 9:30 PM EDT. You must sign up in advance at the AOS website.
This is the presentation I have given to many orchid societies and at events around the country, over the last several years. Topics include:
- Background about the functioning of roots
- Basics about Semi-Hydroponic culture
- Comparison to traditional concepts of hydroponics
- S/H Components
- “How to” Instructions
- Advantages and disadvantages of S/H
- Repotting, both into S/H for the first time and moving plants on
- Objections to S/H
- …and an array of photographs of orchids grown that way
Questions will be welcomed!

I wish our OS would have you speak someday. How wonderful that the AOS is helping their members by having you do the webinar.
One of our OS members spoke about growing in full hydroponics. She grows quite a few of her orchids that way but the set up is so much more complicated than what you offer. I don't think anyone else from our OS is going to give her method a try, as interesting as it was.

Just a question. What are the advantages of being an AOS member? I know you get the magazine but is there anything else?

Benefits include: access to past webinars, digital archive of the magazine, information about orchid care not available to general public, discounted entrance fees to some botanical gardens, discount on orchid purchases from some vendors and knowing that you are helping to promote the study and conservation of orchids. And you get a membership card that certifies you as a crazy orchid addict.

You also can help keep alive an organization that has done great things in the past, and might do great things in the future. Lots of national plant societies in many countries are in trouble because their leadership can't figure out how to prosper in the age of the Internet, or doesn't want to bother.
