I never use rooting hormone on my orchids though I do use it often for cuttings. My orchids have never seemed to need it.

They say when you transplant from regular mix to s/h if there are no new roots, to soak the LECA in a rooting hormone overnight. Or at least that's what Ray says to do. So I'm just wondering if miracle gro quick start will work in leu of KLN.

I don't know why it wouldn't work, just follow the directions. I just happen to have KLN on hand so whenever I transplant into S/H from bark, I soak the LECA in the growth hormone. I've never done a side-by-side comparison of not using it, but roots seem to proliferate with it. A happy orchid makes me happy!

Rooting hormone
The label shows it to be a fertilizer only, with no root stimulating hormones.
You,will find KelpMax to be far superior. And...rather than adding to the presoak, just add it to the solution you initially after with after transplanting.

Ray is right there is no rooting hormone in it, FYI the rooting hormones i buy from my hydroponics dealer I feel work better than the standard rooting hormones you can find in walmart or home depot types of stores. The concentration is .3% as opposed to .1%

If you buy a product with synthetic hormones in it, make sure it is FRESH, as they degrade rapidly. Dyna-Gro now puts a "use by" date on their packages.
If you don't know it's fresh, don't buy it.
That's why I am so sold on KelpMax (and why I carry it) - in addition to be far more effective, it is natural, and very chemically stable.
