Time to try S/H on one Oncidium Male
Default Time to try S/H on one Oncidium

This plant has recently started firing out lots of roots and was packed with lots of moss , before i make the move , does every little bit of moss need to be picked out , does the pot need to be closed at bottom and 2 or 3 holes drilled 1 inch from bottom up and should i trim some of these roots ,to avoid a rotting mess of roots , how deep should i place the p bulbs in the leca balls ,
Should i perhaps place the plant under a dome with heat mat underneath to get more roots a growing , i have no kln on hand but do have some worm castings tea ,from what i hear its good for them.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

From what I've read, the old root should be remove prior making this transition. Of course if you have new root shooting out you can leave it alone and it should adapt to the new environment. I have on currently in semi hydro, not much of a progress yet since i just out it in semi a month ago.

Yes, trim the roots that are showing signs of rot and remove all of the moss. Yes, you'll need a water reservoir for s/h like the one you described, otherwise you would be watering more often with the LECA in a traditional orchid container. Just plant the bulbs at the same depth you would if you were using traditional bark medium. A heat mat might help, don't think you'd need a dome. KLN will help the roots get established in the LECA, I've never used worm-castings "tea" on orchids before. Good luck!
