Default BL Morning Glory - first blooming in s/h

This one went into s/h about 18 months ago, when it was a seedling. It had a bit of a rough time adjusting, and some pbulbs that grew in s/h were much smaller than the older, sphagnum grown ones.

But eventually it accepted its new environment and gave me three beautiful blooms for its first ever blooming. And I'm not even following Ray's rules! I don't plug the hole, fill to the top and drain the water. I just pour in the water until it starts coming out of the hole, every day. It's fed K-lite at 20-30 ppm N.

Beautiful flowers....its not on S/H if you water everyday. I don't see the holes nor the Leca pebbles, you seem to be using ordinary orchid mix.
But you must be doing something right to have the plant bloom for you.

There is live moss growing over the LECA. The one drilled hole is at the back of the pot, about 25 mm from the bottom. I bought a nice looking plastic cup rather than using a utilitarian clear pot that Ray sells.

Why is it not s/h if I water every day?

I do semi hydro in plastic cups from the dollar store with a hole or two drilled at an inch from the bottom, and use lava, and or hydro balls. You can probably also do it with bark mix. Makes sense to me.

It seems unusual that some new growths would be smaller. Is it the light, or the water?

All the catts that I placed in s/h had an adjustment period when new growths were smaller than the earlier ones. None 'took off without skipping a beat' as some have reported. Several plants declined so much that I had to get them out before they died. This is why I tend to caution newbies to s/h that it's not a solution to all their orchid growing problems.
