Vanilla in S/H ? Male
Exclamation Vanilla in S/H ?

I have been looking at S/H all week now and read Ray's page up and down, forward and back on he's information on S/H.

I have a question about what I could grow in S/H. Has anyone attempted to grow a Vanilla orchid using this system?? Specifically V. planifolia.

Thank u all. ^_^

He grew them inside a controlled greenhouse and they did well.

We use a commercial mix that has leaf litter, bark, rock, sand, dirt, even twigs in it; and ours are growing 30 to 40cm a month. In I love Vanilla you can see the photo of the mix.

It should work but do not expose its roots to less than 17°C temps if wet.

I'm a strong adviser of pots with water reserves for vanillas but I've not tried the full S/H route.

I have some half-alive Vanillae in New York and they definitely need the heat. Some of the other orchids and other plants look a bit stunted, but the vanillae are in real distress. I think think this is the first time I've been anxious for summer to come, I usually love cool weather!
