Progress! Blc. Lake Murray 'Mendenhall'
Well, this is encouraging!
The pseudo bulbs are very wrinkled from the root loss due to adapting to S/H. I guess it has only been in S/H for about 2 weeks now.

How wonderful! It is always a relief to see new roots! It must really love all the humidity around the root zone!

It looks like the eye is going to develop, too! Even better!

Yeah, it is a little grumpy because of the transition to S/H and I think I need to work on the light situation a bit too (might be slightly too direct of light). But I think I see 3 eyes on it! Maybe I need to start looking for a larger container!

At this time of year plants can take much more sun. It isn't as strong as it is first thing in the spring and they have had all summer to adapt. I find that direct sun in an east window is where mine do best.
some plants adapt to s/h very quickly, others take longer. I got a bare root miltonopsis in the spring and it loved s/h in lava rock right away. Also reed stemmed epi adapt very quickly. I did try a BLC and it was doing very well too, until I accidentally left it in the greenhouse during a heat wave.

This Blc. is getting a little purple coloration on the p-bulbs. The whole plant seems inclined to purple coloration though, as even the roots are purple! So I am not sure if it is necessarily a bad thing that the p-bulbs are purple? Still learning!
I am having issues with switching my Miltoniopsis to S/H but I think it is because it had issues to begin with. S/H is my last ditch effort to try to save it. lol!

Try first rays for larger containers. If you don't like the look of the plastic container it can be placed in a cachepot

I look for clear canisters at garage sales or second hand stores and use a soldering iron to melt holes.
I was having problems with my phrag until I put it in s/h. It really loves it. In our climate I keep finding ferns and moss growing out of my s/h containers.

your pot is a bit tall for the S/H wicking to reach the top.... you must spray the aerial roots more often....and you have a neat set up there too....

I have become the queen of thrift store glassware. You can get most glass vases for $1 at the thrift stores in my area. I have really loaded up recently. I've gotten the drilling process down so I rarely break things anymore.

Yeah I was wondering about that so I made the holes a bit higher than Ray recommended for regular pots. I think that will help a little, plus this one had a monster of a root system. I've also been spraying the surface frequently while it adjusts to S/H. Fingers crossed that it works out!

That should work fine. I do the same thing. I have some decorative plastic vases that look nice and work well, but I also put the hole quite a bit further up.
