Default Eco web cubes?

Hey all,

So I got some Eco web cubes from Ray a few weeks ago and I wasn't sure what to do with them but I like the idea of an open media that the roots can grab a hold of etc. I also like how light it is. I've been growing with hydroton for nearly as long as I've grown orchids and it's heavy. Anyway, I also got a neo hybrid form ray in the same order and it came growing in Eco web. And I kid you not, while Ray has very nice plants, this plant was loving this Eco web! It was crazy how much the plant has grown its roots in and around and through the webbing.

So I got inspired. I removed a Phal I had in hydroton but not in sh that is sending out new roots. I cut aqua cloth, also from ray, to fit inside the new pot and deep enough to reach in to the reservoir. Then I placed the plant in and filled in the space with this Eco web. The aqua cloth wicks water up pretty far and the Eco web of course is very open and airy but still holds droplets.

So my question is, has anyone else used Eco web in sh instead of hydroton or prime Agra?

I'm not affiliated with Ray in any way but seriously this stuff is great... The other neo hybrids I already had we're doing ok but I decided to put them in a vase to keep up the humidity (I dump the water when it's watered well) and the plants have already grown roots into the Eco web... Love it!

I would if Orchidboard and Tapatalk would get along today!!!!! Orchidboard peeps-- what's going on with this expired API thing? I have no idea what it is, but it's cramping my mobile orchid computing experience.

Have you updated to the latest possible version of Tapatalk? Either you're using an older version, or the forum Gods have done, or need to do, something crazy. Current version for iOS is 2.0.3

Hope this helps!

One of the advantages of LECA is its wicking ability. EcoWeb does not wick at all.

I am experimenting with a mix of rolled-up AquaMat and the EcoWeb cubes, but am not far enough along to make any judgments yet.

I'm also curious to see some pics once you've got the compatibility issues taken care of. Maybe Ray could post some pics of his experiments too?

Ray that's exactly what I'm doing. the reason being is that phal gigs seem to resent the chilling of sh (I have a very controlled environment but even at 6500 almost 7000' mean sea level, the relative in relative humidity must be emphasized). Having aquamat keeps that humidity up even more about the roots, but how much more is unknown. The plant in question remains under a .02 inch misting system that gets the plant pretty wet and ironically, the droplets in the eco web remain very fine, too. Down side is, it's hard to see the roots. But my hope is that the gig can grow in to a modified sh situation without the prolonged chilling effect of the hydroton-type media.

Thoughts?

That is the versioning on my app currently... weird. It will not load anything on this site.

This is the plant from Ray. You can see the Eco web and how the roots have grown in and through it.

Pilot, then the forum gods probably need to update their plugin for tapatalk. I'd bet that the api key for the older plugin has been allowed to expire.
