The first shot looks like the plant on the right has bark around it.

You shouldn't have bark in S/H, the point is that it's an inert medium so that it doesn't break down in the water. Also the roots look like they should be covered by more leca.

Note that it's expected for roots to die back when transfering to S/H so you should transfer them when there is brand new root growth. Having said that Phals will sometimes transition without this.

Another note, Phals need to be kept warmer in S/H. Mine did well this way in summer, but lost roots and one died in winter from the root loss. The evaporation from the damp leca causes it to cool, and Phals being warmer loving plants can struggle with that. I saved the rest by using a heat mat, but no longer grow phals that way (I grow others in S/H).
