IF you drill glass, do so with the glass and drill bit submerged in water. Not only does it keep things cool to prevent thermal shock, but the water molecules bind with the newly-exposed glass sites, relieving the strain of broken bonds, further improving the chance of drilling without breakage.

i habe tested out some of the biodegratable deli "salad Bowls" and while i love the shape and look of them, they do not last the season, i figured i would get a bit longer out of them, but the ystarted cracking on the lower edge after about 6 months. i have not found those larger salad bowls in anything sturdier, but if anyone find them, please let me know.
when i had very large plants and needed something quick, i used the cheep semi translucent mixing buckets from home depot, they come in a handful of sizes and get pretty large.
